Synopsis

Microbial genome plasticity is a fundamental mechanism that allows microbes to adapt and evolve rapidly in response to environmental pressures. This book, specially designed for Master's students in microbiology, offers an in-depth exploration of the key processes underlying this plasticity. It provides detailed coverage of phenomena such as the acquisition of external genetic material, intrachromosomal rearrangements, and gene loss under environmental selective pressure.

By examining how these mechanisms influence bacterial adaptation, the book highlights their impact on virulence and increasing antibiotic resistance. Each chapter addresses a specific aspect of genome plasticity, providing clear explanations and concrete examples to illustrate the complexity and dynamics of these processes.

The book's approach combines simplicity with thoroughness, enabling a deep understanding of the importance of genome plasticity in the context of current microbial challenges. By making these concepts accessible, it aims to prepare students to understand and tackle issues related to antibiotic resistance and microbial adaptation in their future research or professional careers.
