Abstract

The present research aims to investigate the method of argumentation by the “model” in the poem “Hadha Al' Ladhi” by Al-Farazdaq, and study its effectiveness in changing the addressee’s behaviour; especially if the latter has political authority and a social reputation. On this basis, the researchers aim to answer the following question: How did the addresser use this method to persuade the addressee?  What mechanisms were used to support their arguments and make the model worthy of emulation?  Did s /he reach his goal?

 This study relied on the pioneers of persuasion, both Western and Arab, aiming to reveal the importance of this method.  The study concluded that: the addresser should select many characteristics of the model by relying on the duality of addition and negation to make the model valid for emulation
